I’m a horrible blogger…

I know it’s been a long time since I posted an update. So a cliff note update is in order:

  • I’ve had some great and not so great runs (close to a 7 miler 🙌🏻) and some not so great ones (I’m looking at you sprints 🙄)
  • Still love my new shoes
  • Still loving my Aaptiv training program
  • I’m hating the fact that out of nowhere I’ve developed shin splints. I thought two days rest and my new compression socks would get me back on my feet. The pain this morning told me ‘not so much’
  • Having to take more time off scares the 💩 out of me
  • We’ve had two visits from the tooth fairy for my munchkin
  • It still very much feels like summer here and I desperately miss Fall
  • I can’t believe I’m starting to map out Christmas gifts for the kiddos 🙈

Can’t catch a break!

Can I just say that I don’t like having to get my flu shot? I had to get it Thursday and I was NOT excited. Last year the flu shot did absolutely nothing. Beyond my bad experience (testing positive for flu A and B which turned into viral bronchitis, which then turned into viral pneumonia) we had a huge amount of patients test positive as well.

This year I was miserable by Thursday at 8pm and felt like crap until Saturday evening. I missed my speed work Friday and my long run Saturday 😑  So I’m making that up tonight…wish me luck

Post Irma Update

It’s been a crazy couple weeks here in SWFL. The first week watching and waiting to see what Hurricane Irma was all about and where she would end up. We hunkered down with family through the worst of it. In the midst of Irma though we developed a wicked case of food poisoning 🤢 It has run its course through EVERYONE with some of us enjoying a second round. Happy to say we have had power for several days. Waiting for schools to open back up on Monday as so many were utilized as shelters. We were very lucky compared to my friends and coworkers who live in counties south of us.

Now things are slowly returning to normal: still lots of empty shelfs at the grocery stores as so many had to toss everything due to extended power loss and it’s hit or miss finding gas stations with gas for sale. I’m just happy that we all made it and still have roofs over our heads ❤️

August craziness!

This time of year is filled with ALL the craziness! From August thru September all three kiddos have birthdays (12, 8, and 6 this year 🙈). Add in all the back to school madness to the mix and it becomes a really intense time of year!

Since I last wrote I have officially signed up for my first half-marathon!!!! I am so freaking excited, scared, overwhelmed I can barely stand it! My sweetie and I tackled back to school shopping for our kiddos and for our niece and nephew, birthday shopping for all three kiddos (and they are EPIC), and I snuck in some clothes shopping at my favorite kids consignment shop for some great deals!

This weekend we will be celebrating the kiddos birthdays and having one last hurrah before school starts on Monday. My munchkin is starting 1st grade at a new school, but as nervous as she says she is I know how flexible she is becoming as she gets older.

Any suggestions for my first half-marathon? Go-to products?

I know, I know…

Yes. I am alive. I promise. I have been neglecting blogging and I apologize. We have had a busy few weeks but all for good stuff. We had a GREAT visit with my parents, a much needed long weekend to just laugh and relax! All the kids had a blast at the water park and hanging with my parents. We even had a great karaoke session our last night there. Oh the videos! 😂

On the workout front, I have reached the halfway point in my interval training program 🙌🏻 I have a big run scheduled tonight with a slated distance of 7 miles. I came close to my last goal of 6 miles so I’m excited to see how this goes. It’s scary and slightly overwhelming but I’m trying not to psych myself out before I even lace up my running shoes.

Can I just say I am sooooo late to party when it comes to podcasts?! I am wrapping up season 2 of Serial and have a few that I enjoy to stay on top of politics and keep an eye on TrumpCare. I work in the medical field, predominantly with Medicare and Medicaid recipients who could potentially be impacted by this bill so I am very interested in any and all developments. I’ve also been listening to some from the Marathon Training Academy.

What are your go-to podcasts? Any suggestions?

Rut be gone!

Man oh man! Last couple weeks I was in a SERIOUS rut. I came up with every excuse in the book to put off or skip a workout/run, eat this when I should be eating that, etc…I just felt stagnant and stuck.

Late last week though the fog lifted and I got my butt back in gear. Had an awesome 4 mile run and weight session Saturday which solidified how much I need the increased activity in my life. It wore me out, but I felt great afterwards – mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Sunday I prepped my lunches for the week and got to use my new electric wok which was super exciting! Never thought I would love a kitchen appliance as much as I love it! Normally when I make a big batch of fried rice I have to divide it into 3 batches because my stovetop wok was so small. To be able to get it all done at once was a nice treat and timesaver! So happy my step-mom didn’t have a need for it in her kitchen now that they’re all unpacked. Score for me!

Shredded boneless skinless chicken thighs in the crockpot, fried rice with veggies and egg, with broccoli and cabbage 😍

Last night I tried out a HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout and holy crap! I was insanely worn, wobble legs and all, and lets talk about how I’m definitely feeling it this morning! Definitely going to have to add that into the rotation on non-run days.

I’m trying my best to log parts of my journey here. For more day to day stuff make sure to find me on Instagram @eat_run_mom_repeat

Where do I start?!

Now that I finally have a few moments while munchkin warms up at gymnastics I’ll fill you in on the craziness that is life!

So let’s see. I prepped some awesome lunches for the week on Sunday.

Baked boneless skinless chicken thighs, quinoa, sweet potatoes, and loads of roasted veggies! Sunday was also my best run by far!

It felt great to really push myself and hit by highest mileage in a long time. Work has been crazy the last week or two and my two runs this weekend were a MAJOR stress reliever. I’m down three pounds since restarting this journey and making a commitment to getting healthy! I took some pics to track visual progress just because I know the number in the scale isn’t the the ‘end all, be all’. I’m already noticing some small changes in my body which is great. I even had a patient point out how different I look from my picture on my badge.

This was end of July 2016! What a difference stress reduction and a healthier lifestyle make!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! Tomorrow is hump day already!!!
